Province distributes water pumps, grass cutters in 2nd District
LINGAYEM–In keeping with the policy of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. “to bring the Capitol closer to the barangays”, the province has again distributed water pumps and grass cutters to the grassroots level, a continuation of a program that started last year.
In the distribution held at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center (PDTC) last June 6 covering the 2nd congressional district, Espino stressed the importance of the two equipment in relation to the environmental protection and agricultural thrusts of the province.
The governor described the project as a “necessary tool to make every barangay clean and orderly and, at the same time, boost agricultural productivity” as he likened the poblacion (town proper) to the Capitol being the heart, the soul, and the face of the provincial government.
Furthermore, the Governor asked all local leaders to spearhead the cleanliness campaign in their respective localities, especially in schools where the value of proper hygiene and love for environment must be taught among the students.
The provincial government launched last year the series of distribution of water pumps and grass cutters to local government units and will continue until all barangays in Pangasinan are given these sets of equipment.
Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. said the project may be simple but its purpose has a big impact both for the environment and agriculture.
“It is about time that we let go of the old traditional agriculture practices that we know where rice is the only product that our farmers plant,” he said, adding that Pangasinenses must start accepting modern farming to increase the yield of marginal farmers.
Cleanliness, according to Calimlim, is another priority of the present administration, thus the distribution of grass cutters in all barangays will redound to the purpose of protecting the environment.
“If all barangay folks will work together in cleaning and greening their environs, then all things will be organized just like what the Governor did to the Capitol,” he said.
Meanwhile, pledges of support were manifested by all local heads covered by the distribution project. All local chief executives thanked the governor for all the projects that they have received over the past four years.
“We feel the support of the provincial government even thru simple projects such as this,” they said as all leaders vowed to fully support all future endeavors of the present administration.
To date, the province has distributed a total of 556 units of water pumps and 556 units of grass cutters.
More equipment will be distributed until all towns in Pangasinan are covered. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
