Pangasinan in The PUNCH

By May 27, 2012Headlines, News

STARTING this issue, The PUNCH is reviving its early format promoting the Pangasinan language among Pangasinenses with weekly features written by the province’s foremost writers and authors, namely Santiago Villafania and Mel Jovellanos, alternatingly.

The two noted authors in Pangasinan are forerunners of the Ulupan na Pansiansay Salitan Pangasinan and active members of the Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission.

Both Villafania, a bilingual Filipino poet from Sta. Barbara, and Jovellanos, an author from Pozorrubio, are advocates for the promotion and resurgence of Pangasinan as a language in the country.

Among Jovellanos’ work include the publication of the first Pangasinan-English Dictionary, the history and hymn of Pozorrubio while Villafania has published series of poems and books entitled Pinabli tan arum ni’ran Anlong and Malagilion: Sonnets tan Villanelles.
