San Jacinto farmers bag Agri-Pinoy Award
SAN JACINTO—Rice farmers from this town proved themselves to be the most productive in the country by recently winning the Agri-Pinoy Rice Achiever Award.
Judges for the award found San Jacinto to have produced the biggest volume of rice per hectare during the last planting season compared to other towns in the country.
Mayor Robert de Vera said there are some 2,000 farmers in his town and all of them use modern technologies taught by government farm technicians.
Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia, speaking last May 19 before farmers at the town auditorium, congratulated them for their achievement and brought 1,200 certified seeds and 577 knapsack sprayers in support of the farmers.
These are in addition to the 1,200 bags of fertilizers and 500 certified seeds she donated last month.
The mayor credited De Venecia for being their biggest ally in improving the lives of farmers and their families.
The municipal government began helping supplement the needs of farmers by subsidizing 50 per cent of the cost of additional certified seeds on the directive of Mayor De Vera.
Meanwhile, farmers have requested De Venecia to help provide funding for the repair of a damaged water-impounding dam in Barangay Awai, their source of irrigation water during the dry months.
There are other ongoing projects funded from the congresswoman’s Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and De Venecia has also sought the help of the Department of Agriculture to fund the construction of other farm- to- market roads in Barangay Sto. Tomas, Casibong, San Juan and Sta. Cruz.
MALUNGGAY PROCESSING
San Jacinto was recently chosen by De Venecia as the site for the center for the planned Malunggay Processing Industry in the Fourth District.
The processing plant will be built to manufacture products that could be sold in the world market such as Japan.
De Venecia, who has allocated P5 million from her PDAF for the project, she will meet with stakeholders, including officials of the town where the malunggay processing plant would be located this week.
