DOST high school scholarship open for applications

INCOMING freshmen high school students for school year 2013-2014 can now apply for scholarship to the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Engr. Felipe D. Andrada, director of the DOST-Pangasinan Science and Technology Center (STC), announced Thursday that application forms are already available at the DOST-STC on Alvear East Street in Lingayen.

Qualifications include being in the top 10 percent of their class or grades of at least 85 in Math and in Science and at least 80 in all other subjects, Andrada said during the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency office.

Students with pending petitions to go abroad or those who have previously failed in the National Competitive Examination (NCE), are not qualified for the scholarship.

BENEFITS

Scholars will receive free tuition, monthly allowance and textbooks loans.

Transportation, uniform and living allowances will also be extended to scholars from low-income families.

Prospective scholars whose families earn more than P165,000 annually must submit two copies of accomplished application form, a copy of birth certificate and two 1×1  ID pictures, while those with an income below P165,000 have an additional requirement of three months of electric bill and high school tuition bill for evaluation.

Deadline of filing of applications is July 13, 2012, the NCE, the scholarship exam, is on September 29, 2012.
