MALASIQUI–Two persons were killed and three others wounded that stemmed from an alleged cheating in a card game during a wake in Barangay Bogtong here at 9:30 p.m. on May 14.

Dead on the spot were Zaldy Garcia, 39, of Poblacion, Urbiztondo; and Maribel Lambino. 38, of Sangguniang Village in Dagupan City.

Police investigation showed that Garcia, Lambino and several companions, although strangers in Barangay Bogtong, Malasiqui, attended the wake of Eusebio Terrado where they played the card game “Lucky Nine”.

Lambino stood as the dealer in the game joined by locals of the barangay namely Dennis Bautista, 35; Lamberto Tamayo, alias “Tibay”, 48; and Mamerto Cancino, 49.

Later in the game, Lambino was substituted by her companion Mark Rey Ocuanan of Barangay Magsaysay, Alaminos City who brought in another set of cards.

As the game progressed, Ocuanan was winning but was caught cheating so the other bettors demanded a change of cards. He then stood up but was restrained by the other players who accused him of cheating.

Sensing the commotion, Garcia and Lambino tried to leave the place on board their Honda TMX 155 motorcycle but were shot by still unidentified suspects, hitting them in their foreheads.

Also wounded were Cansino, one of those playing in the card game who was hit in both arms and stomach.

The others wounded from stray bullets were Esperanza Ferrer, 72; Ronny Maisano, Rowena Quinto and Liberty Rosario.
