Espino thanks media for wide coverage of Palaro 2012
LINGAYEN–Some 200 media practitioners from national and local outlets joined the Media Night on May 10 at the Sison Auditorium as part of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr’s appreciation to the tireless efforts of the people who covered the events of Palarong Pambansa 2012.
“Hindi po namin na-perfect ang pagiging benchmark ng Palaro sa Pangasinan ngunit na-iangat po natin kahit papaano ang Palarong Pambansa,” the governor said in his message.
Espino acknowledged the efforts of the department heads who have been responsible in delivering important tasks for the national games, namely: Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Secretary and Task Force Palaro Chair Atty. Verna Perez, Special Events Chair Marife Acerit, Tourism Operations Division Chief Ma. Luisa Elduayan, Provincial Information Officer Orpheus Velasco, Management Information Services Officer Modesto Singson, Executive Assistant Ramon Morden, Executive Assistant Modesto Operania, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Chief Col. Fernando de Guzman, General Services Office Chief Rolando Diaz, General Services Office Supervising Administrative Officer Romeo Aquino, Pangasinan Police Provincial Officer-in-Charge Michael Nicolas, among others.
The governor expressed his gratitude to members of the media for continuing to support the Palarong Pambansa activities.
Espino also cited the four elements or characteristics of the Palaro, namely: green and environment-friendly, hi-tech, continuity and cooperation/partnership among the provincial and national government.
“If properly guided and orchestrated, we can produce athletes for the South East Asian Games, or even the Olympics,” he said.
Espino noted some sports that will be incorporated in the Sports Academy of the provincial government after the Palarong Pambansa 2012, such as boxing, taekwondo, arnis and sepak takraw.
During the program, some media members gave their impressions of the Palaro even as they congratulated the provincial government leadership for its success.
“Like any other sports event of this magnitude, there are birth pains but after the highlight of the Palaro, which was the opening ceremony, everything’s been fine. The participants have been very excited,” according to Bong Pedralvez, a senior sportswriter for Malaya.
“First time kong makapunta sa Pangasinan at sa aming pag-iikot sa loob ng apat na araw, wala akong masabi, pati ang mga kasamahan ko. Napakaganda at malinis talaga sa inyong probinsiya. Ayos na ayos ang pagtanggap sa amin. Preparado talaga. Salamat talaga,” Bombo Rayo-Bacolod reporter Romeo Camporaso said.
“Congratulations po, Gov. Espino. Kahit may mga konting glitches noong umpisa, n-solve naman agad,” freelance sports photographer Jojo Rinoza said.
“We are all assured that Palarong Pambansa 2012 will go down in history as the best Palaro because of the leadership of Gov. Amado Espino,” said veteran columnist Jun Velasco of the Sunday Punch. (PIO)
