Team Pangasinan rules in beach volleyball
LINGAYEN—‘Volleybelle’ teams from Pangasinan nosed out rivals from Manila and Baguio City and grabbed first and second places in the two-day women’s beach volleyball competition held April 30 to May 1 as part of the Pista’y Dayat celebration.
Mangaldan-LGU volleybelles Jennifer Manzano and Cindy Benitez and University of Luzon players Cassandra Ledda and Melanie Carrera fought it off for the championship round with Mangaldan-LGU dominating the game and going home with the championship title.
Mangaldan’s key player Manzano, the crowd favorite who hails from Lingayen, recently played in the World University Games in China.
Both teams wowed spectators with their killer spikes and strong defense during the championship match.
Rizal Technological University and DLSU College of St. Benilde qualified for the semi final round.
Seven out of 11 participants were from other provinces and cities, namely: Assumption College-Makati; DLSU Dasma-Cavite; SLU-Baguio; UPHS Perpetual Help-Cavite, University of the East-Manila; PSAT-Lingayen; Labrador National High School.
Gov. Amado T. Espino Jr., whose administration has made sports development as a priority program, said with Pangasinan teams leading in ladies beach volleyball, the province can no longer be taken for granted in sports tournaments.
Executive Assistant and Provincial Sports Director Modesto Operania expressed confidence in the province’s future in national sports competitions.
