R1 bags 6 gold medals in PRISAA 2012; to host 2013 game
CEBU CITY—The Region 1 contingent of the PRISAA (Private Schools Athletic Association), composed mostly of athletes from Pangasinan, ranked fifth in the PRISAA National Collegiate Games held April 22-28 here, with 6 gold, 6 silver and 15 bronze medals.
Most of the medals were garnered in three events: athletics, men and women, 3 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals; taekwondo, men and women, 3 gold and 6 bronze medals; and, karatedo, 1 bronze medal.
Some 5,000 athletes, coaches and officials representing 16 regional delegations throughout the country participated in 19 team and individual events and sports.
During the Games’ closing ceremonies last Friday, the PRISAA National Collegiate Games official banner was turned over to PRISAA Region I, which will host the 2013 Games in Pangasinan.
It will be the second time that PRISAA Region I will host the annual games, tentatively scheduled next year on February 10-16.
Dr. Gonzalo T. Duque, PRISAA Region I president, said the PRISAA National Board of Trustees, at its meeting which he attended last April 22, unanimously approved the holding of the annual sporting event in Pangasinan.
Duque expects some 5,000 athletes, coaches and officials to flock to Pangasinan and Dagupan City for the grand sports spectacle.—P. C. Celi
