SEVERAL infrastructure projects to address flooding are now being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Dagupan City and neighboring Calasiao town.

Engineer Rodolfo Dion of the DPWH Second Pangasinan Engineering District said his office is now working on 1.2-meter wide drainages along major roads in barangays Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Boquig, Bonuan Binloc, Pantal, Tapuac and Mayombo in Dagupan City.

Roads along Tapuac and Mayombo, which are most prone to flooding among the roads leading to the central business district, are being elevated by 40 centimeters.

The city government, meanwhile, is recovering and rehabilitating sidewalks that have been encroached by private businesses along M. H. Del Pilar St.

Dion, speaking during the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency on Thursday, said P134.5 million from the general appropriations fund have allocated for the projects, most of which have already been proposed as early as 2009.

Meanwhile, Calasiao town has already started the renovation of its town plaza, along with the rehabilitation of the Villamil Bridge.

Dion said the DPWH aims to finish the projects before the rainy season. (PIA-Pangasinan)
