Trading firms up, manufacturing down
NEW BUSINESSES
SMALL-SCALE and micro trading topped the number of business registrations in the province in 2011 and early this year, based on records of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Manufacturing, however, dropped.
DTI Provincial Director Peter Mangabat said at least 70 percent of those who registered their businesses are into trading like buy-and-sell and sari-sari stores.
“Ang magandang set-up sana ay balanced ang trading at manufacturing,” he said during the KBP Forum held at the Philippine Information Agency on Thursday.
DTI handles business registrations for sole proprietorship and micro- businesses with up to P3 million capitalization. Bigger companies have to go to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Meanwhile, Mangabat expressed elation about the entry of big businesses and investments in the province during the Luzon Investment Conference held recently.
Aside from the Robinsons Mall in Calasiao town, which had its soft opening on March 14, a group of investors is reportedly planning to put up a 40-seat call center in Lingayen soon, he said.
Some Korean companies have also expressed interest to build a cold storage facility in Bayambang town.
