IT’S “better luck next time” for the University of Luzon Golden Tigers and Divine Word Academy of Dagupan cagers as their rivals from Davao City dominated the 64th National Students Basketball Championships (NSBC) held February 7 to March 3 at the CSI Stadia in Dagupan.

Dagupan Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) Region 1 director, handed the senior division championship trophy to Jose Maria College (JMC)-Davao while the junior crown was awarded to the high school team of the Assumption College of Davao.

The JMC Kings subdued Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals (EAC), 80-78, in a hotly-contested overtime championship finish last March 2.

In winning the crown, the Kings will represent their school and the Philippines in the 9th Asian University Students Basketball Championship in July 2012 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Held for the first time in Dagupan City, this year’s NSBC was hosted by the vice mayor in cooperation with the City Government of Dagupan and the Department of Education with support from the CSI Group of Companies, USATV, BAP Region I, Inc., and Federation of Schools Sports Associations of the Philippines (FESSAP).—Philamer C.
