Dagupan waterless for 15 long hours
THE whole of Dagupan City went waterless from 7:00 p.m. Friday to 10:00 a.m. Saturday when a main pipeline of the Dagupan City Water District (DCWD) on Tambac Bridge in Barangay Tambac was replaced.
Jose Quilpan, division manager of the Dagupan City Water District (DCWD), said the installation of a new 450 millimeter transmission pipe replaced he pipe that was damaged last year.
As a result of the repair work, all the 20 pumping stations of DCWD throughout Dagupan were shut down.
Rizaldy Mandap, in charge of the repair work, said while the damage occurred last year, it took time before the new steel pipe ordered from a Manila supplier could arrive in Dagupan.
At the same time, Quilpan announced that DCWD is now servicing the water needs of 98 percent of Dagupan, except in the Carael and Sitio Tokoc in Barangay Calmay.
Under its expansion program funded in part by an initial P100 million loan with the Local Water Utilities Administration, DCWD has brought water to the island barangays of Salapingao, Pugaro and Lomboy.
Quilpan said to date, 16 of the 20 pumping stations of the water district have stand-by generators, enabling them to bring water to households even when there is a power blackout.
Three new pumping stations were built by the water district, two in Bonuan Boquig and one in Bonuan Binloc.
With the rest of its loan from LWUA set to be released soon, DCWD will continue to build its transmission line that will bring water tapped from the boundary of San Fabian and Dagupan to the city’s downtown area.
