Campaign vs. illegal drugs in Dagupan intensified
DESPITE CASES VS. OPERATIVES
THE Dagupan police is not backing down on its efforts against the illegal drug trade in the city despite administrative charges filed against some of its operatives.
Superintendent Romeo Caramat Jr., head of the city police, brushed off the attempt at harassment which he said is intended to distract the station in its campaign to eliminate illegal drugs in the city.
Caramat said his station will not be intimidated and distracted by the cases filed against his station’s operatives.
Six police intelligence operatives are facing administrative charges filed for alleged extortion and illegal arrest at the National Police Commission by arrested suspected drug personalities.
“You’re wrong to think that we will let our guards down against illegal just simply because you are filing charges against our operatives. File your charges, we are not afraid,” Caramat warned suspected drug traders.
“All operations conducted by the police are legitimate,” he added during a radio interview Thursday.
Meanwhile, Caramat lamented intelligence reports that some community leaders in Sitio Silongan, Bonuan Binloc continue to coddle and protect some known drug personalities.
The sitio is considered a hotspot for illegal drugs trafficking in the province.
The city government held a series of dialogues and signed a covenant with the residents of the area late last year and Mayor Benjamin Lim promised them ownership of their residential lots if they help stop the illegal drugs trade in their community.
At the same time, Lim warmed that the city will promptly demolish the house of anyone caught engaged in drug trafficking.
Despite the number of arrested suspects, however, no demolition has been undertaken so far.
Residents usually claim that the suspects are no longer residents in the sitio. (PIA-Pangasinan/ Romeo Fernandez)
