Stricter monitoring implemented in Dagupan fish markets
WITH RED TIDE ALERT
THE City Agriculture Office is now requiring fish and shellfish traders to present auxiliary invoices first before unloading their cargo in Dagupan’s fish markets.
City Agriculture Officer Emma Molina said the directive, which took effect last February 24, was issued pursuant to the bulletin from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) indicating that the Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) or red tide remains on the coastal waters of Wawa in Bani, Anda, Bolinao, and Alaminos City.
Under the directive, the fish traders, including transporters and dealers, must secure and present the fish movement clearance from the BFAR before they are allowed to sell their goods.
Market and quarantine inspectors have been instructed to demand the invoices to ensure that shellfish sold in Dagupan’s markets are not from the red tide infected areas. (CIO)
