Prov’l gov’t disperses tilapia fingerlings in Mapandan, Urbiztondo and Labrador
LINGAYEN—The Provincial Government, through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), dispersed another batch of tilapia fingerlings, approximately 55,000 pieces, to communal bodies of water in the municipalities of Mapandan, Urbiztondo and Labrador.
This is part of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr.’s program to boost the fisheries industry of Pangasinan.
Barangay Lambayan in Mapandan received 10,000 pieces sourced from the Sta. Barbara Provincial Freshwater Fish Hatchery.
These were distributed in Payas Creek (4,000 pcs.), Tanggal-Bato Communal Irrigation System (3,000 pcs.) and Tolong Creek (3,000 pcs.).
Creeks named after three barangays in Urbiztondo, namely: Bayaoas, Catundan and Guiteb, were dispersed with 5,000 pieces each while 10,000 pieces were allocated for Kaliwakiw Creek in barangay Anggatel.
The fingerlings were harvested from the Libsong Fish Farm here.
Twenty-thousand fingerlings, also sourced from Libsong, were dispersed in three barangays in Labrador, particularly 8,000 pieces in barangay Uyong’s small water impounding project; 7,000 pieces in barangay Bolo’s Casupling Creek; and 5,000 pieces in barangay San Gonzalo’s stone quarry impounding project.
Mayor Maximo Calimlim, Jr. of Mapandan, Mayor Ernesto Balolong, Jr. of Urbiztondo and Mayor Ricardo Camacho of Labrador thanked the governor for his program to improve fish production at the grassroots level.
The OPAg dispersed 86,000 tilapia fingerlings in Malasiqui, Pozorrubio and Agno in January this year, bringing the total to 2,805,494 since July 2007.
