Calasiao’s Talibaew completes WASH program
CALASIAO—Residents of Barangay Talibaew here recently completed their “WASH (Water and Sanitation Hygiene) in Emergency” Program conducted by the Philippine Red Cross Pangasinan Chapter in cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and the European Commission Humanitarian Aid.
Under the program, 425 beneficiaries from the community were given training on personal and family hygiene and community cleanliness.
The participants were also taught about the symptoms of common illnesses like diarrhea, athlete’s foot, dengue, and respiratory illnesses and how to give first aid in such cases.
Marbee Ritz Papio, Red Cross Pangasinan Chapter Monitoring Officer for Talibaew, said the damages and the casualties brought about by typhoons Pedring and Quiel last year prompted the organization to the program.
Papio added that respiratory diseases are the barangay’s primary health problems, followed by diarrhea or cholera.
Talibaew is a flood-prone area, with water reaching almost 10-feet high during heavy rains and typhoons.
Red Cross also distributed personal hygiene products to the residents as part of the program.
Barangay Chairman Elias Villanueva extended the gratitude of his people to Red Cross.
The WASH program was also conducted in two other barangays here, Longos and Banaoang.–Raqueza Lalangan, UPB
