PhilHealth ready to accredit city’s proposed maternal and children lying-in clinic
AN OFFICIAL of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) said the agency is willing to give accreditation to the planned maternal and children lying-in clinic of the Dagupan city government being proposed by Mayor Benjamin Lim.
PhilHealth OIC Regional Vice President Maricar Arzadon said such a facility will support one of the millennium development goals.
Arzadon made the statement during a press conference highlighting the celebration of the 17th foundation anniversary of PhilHealth and the observance of the National Health Insurance Month held at the De Luxe Restaurant in Dagupan on February 10.
She said PhilHealth’s goal is to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate.
The city government, however, has yet to submit its detailed plan for its construction and operation. The proposed site is still occupied by the Guadiz Elementary School.
Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlungsod submitted its own reservations to the project. Some councilors pointed out that the Region 1 Medical Center based in Dagupan, which is currently undertaking expansion, will be able to handle more patients from the city and therefore, funds required for the construction and maintenance can be used for similarly important projects.
She added, “ang ating mga mothers ay mas naalagaan sa mga lying-in clinics kasi meron tayong pre-natal care from the first month up to the time of delivery. Unlike po sa government hospital, kapag nanganganak na, doon lang sila pumupunta.” (With report from CIO)
