OVERSEAS Dagupenos have started arriving in the city to participate in the Pawil Dagupan program on December 30.

Atty. Manny Aoanan, event chair person of Pawil Dagupan, said this year’s homecoming celebration is expected to be the biggest since the first Pawil in 1993, thanks largely to the cyberspace.

“We sent invitations to Dagupenos overseas and got acceptance from them through the internet,” he said, adding that in the U.S., Los Angeles-based Rex Catubig has taken upon himself to invite fellow overseas Dagupenos to the event.

Among the recent arrivals include a Dagupena in The Netherlands who arrived with her daughter and are now having a reunion with their relatives in Lasip Grande. The mother and daughter are among those who confirmed their participation in this year’s Pawil Dagupan.

“We are launching Pawil Dagupan 2008 to give overseas Dagupenos an opportune time to see for themselves the many recent developments and progress that had happened in the city since they left,” Aoanan said,

All overseas Dagupenos who have arrived are being requested to register with the Pawil Dagupan secretariat at the city museum before the event to be properly recognized and receive token gifts from the city government.

Aoanan said overseas Dagupenos arriving in big groups on a chartered plane will be met and welcomed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport by a delegation from the city.

The event is set at 7:00 p.m. at the Senior Citizens’ Park at the city plaza in Dagupan City.—LM
