Ex-Mayor Al: I’m with Belen, not BSL
FORMER Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. finally broke his silence to deny a rumor that he has entered a sort of modus vivendi with his conqueror, Mayor Benjamin Lim, to pave the way for the for the team-up of their relatives in the 2013 local election.
“That’s not true”, Fernandez told newsmen, adding, “I have my own party affiliation and my loyalties. And that is with the vice mayor (Belen Fernandez).”
The former mayor of Dagupan was interviewed by newsmen when he and the vice mayor co-presided a meeting of members of the reorganized Liberal Party on February 6 at the former’s fishpond resort in Barangay Bacayao Norte.
Former Mayor Fernandez is the president of the reorganized LP chapter with Vice Mayor Fernandez as chairman.
The two formed the powerhouse Fernandez-Fernandez tandem in the 2007 polls where they both emerged victorious. They maintained the team in 2010 but Fernandez lost to Lim.
WITH YOUNGER LIM
Another rumor circulating is that Fernandez will again run for mayor in 2014 with Councilor Brian Lim, son of the incumbent mayor, as his running mate.
Fernandez again denied it saying, “Candidly, I have no agenda as far as that matter is concerned.”
Vice Mayor Fernandez, for her part, said, “I have the highest respect for him (the former mayor) when he said his loyalty is with us. That is also true for me, my loyalty is with him too.”
“We were partners in all political fights since I entered politics and everybody knows we always go together,” the vice mayor said.
