Some 2,000 Dagupeños trooped to the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome last Sunday where three large television screens were set up for the free viewing of the Pacquiao – De La Hoya fight.

Gerard Rodas, SMART Communications area manager for Northern Luzon, said people began arriving as early as 9 a.m. to watch the “Dream Match” which started after noontime.

Everyone lustily cheered when the fight was stopped before the start of the ninth round as dela Hoya conceded defeat to Pacquiao.

Elsewhere in the province, most Pangasinenses stayed home and were glued to their television and radio sets.

“He’s (Pacquiao) a total and ultimate ‘Mexecutioner’,” said businessman Emerson Flores who watched the fight via large screen at the City Museum here.

Renante Mangiralas, a Lingayen resident who watched the fight in Dagupan City, was ecstatic over Pacquiao’s speed which counted a lot in his fight with De La Hoya.

“Mabilis si Pacquiao, pag umatake si De La Hoya, mabilis bumawi si Pacquiao,” Mangiralas said.

“T’was a hell of a fight,” said photojournalist Butch Uka.—CSR
