De Lima, provincial brass tackle HR issues

The province’s public officials, police officials and representatives of non-government organizations will convene for a whole-day forum on how to uphold and protect human rights of Pangasinenses.

Human Rights Commission Chairperson Leila de Lima will lead a battery of speakers and resource persons that include National Anti Terrorism Action Group chief Arturo Lomibao, Center for People’s Rights and Participation president Fr. Romeo Intengan, and Governor Amado Espino Jr., to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on Saturday, December 13 at the Narcisco Ramos civic center in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Specific human rights issues and case studies will be tackled as references in the forum.

De Lima and the other speakers will resolve on the spot specific issues and problems that will be presented to the forum while Ana Elzy Ofreneo, CHRP’s Human Rights Education and Research director, will also present a synthesis of local human rights cases.

Police Regional Director Luizo Ticman, Pangasinan Director Percival Barba and Dagupan City police station director Mariano Verzosa will lead policemen in the forum, while Local Government provincial officer Domiciano Soriano and Board Member Amadeo Espino, president of the Pangasinan league of barangay captains, will lead LGU officers in the forum.

The forum is under the auspices of the provincial government in collaboration with the CPRP and Medialink, an events management group headed by Kharmina Velasco.
