Calasiao bags annual LGU ‘Best Nutrition Award’

CALASIAO bagged the Best LGU Provincial Nutrition Program Award this year with Burgos landing second and Umingan, third.

The top three awardees, receiving cash prizes and plaques of commendation, were cited for their performance and support for the success of the nutrition program in their respective localities.

Their contributions improved nutrition level in the communities, particularly benefiting pre-schoolers and school children who are under threat of malnutrition.

Other LGU nutrition awardees were Binmaley, Laoac, Agno, Bani, Mangatarem, Bolinao, Sta. Barbara, Asingan, Manaoag and Natividad.

The winners received their prizes duringthe Provincial Nutrition Awarding Ceremony spearheaded by OIC-Provincial Health Officer II Jackson D. Soriano at the Capitol Resort Hotel on November 12.

Also awarded were the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) chosen on the basis of their outstanding performance in delivering nutrition services by serving as community-based volunteer workers in the barangay.

Topping the best BNS list was Amelia Sison of Papallasen, Burgos while Precila Catabay of Liwa-liwa, Bolinao, was second; and Leticia Banduyang of Agat, Sison, third. BNS Sany Visperas from Libsong East, Lingayen was also given a certificate.

Mapandan, Mabini, Rosales and San Quintin were this year’s special awardees for their outstanding performance in Food Assistance Program by allocating funds.

Victoria Manez, Region I Nutrition Program Coordinator, said recognizing the LGUs with outstanding nutrition programs is aimed at motivating the latter to continuously work for the improvement of the nutrition sector.

The annual search was conducted by the Provincial Nutrition Evaluation Team composed of representatives from the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Provincial Planning and Development Office, Department of Education, Provincial Health Office, Department of Interior and Local Government and the Department of Science and Technology.#
