TALK of a public market and you immediately think of piles of trash and the stench of rotting waste. If you expect to see that in Dagupan’s weekend night market, think again.

Councilor Alfie Fernandez vowed to transform a portion of the city’s major artery from a drab urban center into a lively and colorful mecca of assorted entertainment, food and goods, and a showcase of effective waste management thru Tinday Labi.

“This project will revitalize Galvan Street and the neighboring department stores and the city-run Malimgas Public Market. When they close shop at 6pm, we begin to open new avenues for dining and shopping for residents and visitors alike,” he said.

Along with the well-lit street lamps and freshly washed steel grills lining up the city’s major road artery, A.B Fernandez Avenue is set to welcome the return of variety of stores vending different goods, all sold at affordable prices.

The young Fernandez said even before there were malls, people all over the province flocked to the city’s famed public market with its wide array of dry and wet goods, fruits, flowers, vegetables, and home decors.

“The Senior Citizen’s Park will again be home to a nightly acoustics concert and a portion of AB Fernandez will be teeming with hundreds of shops and food outlets which will afford opportunities to many of our residents to earn,” he said.

Ambulant vendors considered illegal may find a place to sell their wares during the designated days for the Tinday Labi. The project will run every Fridays and Saturdays beginning November 14 until December 27. – CIO
