2nd Sari-Sari Fair successful
The 2nd Sari-Sari Store Fair, aimed at facilitating meaningful marketing encounters between small and big businessmen, opened on Friday at the CSI Stadia in Lucao Dagupan City.
Directors Henry John Jalbuena of the Department of Labor and Employment and Florante Leal of the Department of Trade and Industry, assisted by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, chair of the CSI Group of Companies, and Councilor Dada Reyna, led the ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open the event.
On hand to grace the opening program were Carl Cruz of Unilever, Ed Poserio, chairman of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines and Exequiel de Guzman, executive director of the Regional Wage Productivity Board.
The government agencies joined the fair for the first time.
Vice Mayor Fernandez, who earned the moniker “Queen of Sari-sari stores” in Northern Luzon, paid tribute to the sari-sari stores owners as the entrepreneurs who run small businesses but represent an economic force to reckon with.
CSI, starting with the Fernandez patriarch Jimmy Fernandez, has long been deeply involved in the á growth and development of small businesses, particularly sari-sari stores.
The fair, attended by sari-sari storeowners, prospective entrepreneurs and employees from various industries, enjoyed hefty discounts in their purchases during the fair.
At least 84 producers and distributors of consumer goods exhibited their products in the three-day fair while their executives and middle level officials of manufacturers were on as resources persons and lecturers,
Cooking demonstrations, variety shows and raffle draws for buyers were held.
Employees from around the region were brought in by the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry, Employers Confederation of the Philippines, Pangasinan chapter and the Region One Wage Productivity Board to participate in the fair.
“It is one way of giving non-cash benefits to the workers in these difficult times,” said DOLE Regional Director Henry John Jalbuena.
