THERE is no stopping overseas Dagupenos from coming home to visit their loved-ones this Christmas, coinciding with the month-long Dagupan City Fiesta, despite the worldwide financial crisis.

This was the news relayed by Councilor Jesus Canto, assistant hermano mayor of the Dagupan City Fiesta (December 1 to 31), upon his arrival from a two-week trip to the United States with Councilor Alfie Fernandez, hermano mayor, to campaign for “Pawil Dagupan”.

On meeting members of several Dagupeno associations in the West Coast, the two aldermen received assurances that many overseas Dagupenos will participate in “Pawil Dagupan” in December and while another group plans to arrive for the city’s Bangus Festival in April.

Canto said those coming home this December are looking forward to have their scheduled family /clan reunions during the Christmas period and fiesta.

Others expressed excitement to see the new Dawel-Pantal-Lucap Road with a long bridge spanning across the Pantal River.

“Our overseas Dagupenos are still willing to come and help despite the financial crisis in America,” Canto said.

Pawil Dagupan” is a twice-a-year homecoming tourism-oriented activity of the city, held in December during the city fiesta, and another during the Bangus Festival, expected to be chaired again by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.

In both the city fiesta and Bangus Festival, the city prepares a special program for all overseas Dagupenos participating in “Pawil Dagupan”.

Canto noted also the continued popularity of Dagupan City Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. among overseas Dagupenos in the U.S.- LM
