BARANGAY Mangin in Dagupan was awarded the Regional Kalasag Award this year, a recognition of its excellence in calamity preparedness and humanitarian assistance.

Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-Region 1 Director Melchito Castro, in a letter to Mayor Benjamin Lim, said Mangin was chosen for the award after it placed second in the Rural Barangay Category of the National Search for the Best Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC) last year.

Mangin, one of the city’s pilot villages on DRRM efforts, has been visited by numerous local government units to replicate its Early Warning System (EWS) scheme and its pioneering barangay 3D (three-dimensional) map.
