Bataoil backs restoration of Casa Real, jail transfer
CASA Real, a Spanish-era two-storey building beside the Lingayen Municipal Hall that has long been left to the elements, will soon be restored with the promised help of 2nd District Representative Leopoldo Bataoil.
At the same time, the congressman also vowed to support the relocation of the adjacent provincial jail to a new site and the restoration of the building.
Bataoil, speaking during the Media In Action forum of the Pangasinan Press Club last Thursday, said he will to allocate part of his Priority Development assistance Fund (PDAF) this year for the twin projects that are aimed at boosting the tourism potentials of the province.
The congressman said he has also sought the help of the Department of Tourism (DOT) for additional funding.
The Casa Real used to be the seat of the Pangasinan provincial government until the American regime when the current provincial capitol was eventually built.
The provincial jail, on the other hand, is the old Carsel that complemented the Casa Real. Once vacated, it will also undergo restoration works.
Bataoil said he will coordinate with Governor Amado Espino Jr., the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Provincial Historical and Cultural Commission for the projects.
The Pangasinan Historical Society led by Arabella Arcinue has been lobbying for the restoration of the two structures.
After the new capitol was built, Casa Real was used to house the courts of Pangasinan and later on as an extension of the Lingayen Municipal Hall.
But it was eventually abandoned given its rundown state.
