‘Fr. Soc’ asks priests: Celebrate mass daily
LINGAYEN-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas has called on his brother-priests in the archdiocese to preside over one Mass each day of the year in observance of piety in their personal and public lives as ordained ministers.
“Please do not allow any day of this year 2012 to pass without celebrating Mass even if it is only the altar server with you, even if there are no intentions offered by the Catholic faithful or even if you are on your vacation or weekly day off,” Fr. Soc wrote in a circular issued last week.
‘Fr. Soc’, as the archbishop is fondly known to his flock, pointed out that among the many spiritual aids to their personal and public piety as priests, the three most important are the daily Mass, the daily Liturgy of the Hours, and monthly confession.
He reminded his fellow priests that their fidelity to the Liturgy of the Hours is a promise they made at their ordination.
He also reminded them that a monthly confession will help keep their “feet on the ground” by acknowledging their sins and at the same time “gazing on the face of the Lord who is rich in mercy”.
Fr. Soc also asked the laity to pray for the sanctification of priests this year.—Eva Visperas
