Dagupan girl tops 2005 bar exam

Joan De Venecia, a Dagupeña and a University of the Philippines College of Law valedictorian, is this year’s topnotcher in the traditionally back-breaking bar examination with only 27.22 percent of the total examinees hurdling it.


She scored 87.20%and is one of only three topnotchers from UP.


Joan took her legal management degree at Ateneo de Manila University before studying law proper at UP. Three Ateneans almost made it to the magic ten circle.


A law associate of Sycip Gorres and Velayo law firm, Joan is the 10thdaughter of former Judge Tony and Norma De Venecia, and a niece of Speaker Joe De Venecia.


A jubilant Atty. De Venecia thanked “the good Lord and the guidance and support of my parents, brothers and sisters.” 


Her   siblings     are   Alex, city councilor; Eric, banker; Ramon, businessman; Perry, Medical Technologist from Florida; Agosto, Immi-gration Officer, Rosette, Pediatrician  in Cagayan de Oro, Blanca, immigration officer; Nenuca, businesswoman from Los Angeles; Toni Anne, B.S. Biology Cum Laude graduate in Ateneo University. 


LNU produces 4 new lawyers


FOUR of five examinees of Lyceum Northwestern University passed the bar examinations given by the Supreme Court last year.


This was announced by LNU President Dr. Gonzalo T. Duque who said this is the highest percentage of passing since the university opened its college of law seven years ago.


Lawyer Joven Maramba, dean of the College of Law of LNU, and incumbent president of   the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Pangasinan chapter, said the new lawyers are headed by Alipio Serafin ‘Alfie’ David Fernandez, son of former Dagupan City Mayor and now Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr.; Gerald Gubatan, son of former San Fabian Mayor and Provincial Board Member Conrado Gubatan of San Fabian; Jason Mejia, also of San Fabian; and Venancio Manuel of Aguilar.


Maramba said with four out of five examinees passing the bar examination, LNU achieved an average passing of 80 per cent.

 
Aquino passes bar


ANOTHER successful
bar examinee from Dagupan City is Catherine M. Aquino, daughter of Mr. Juanito ‘Boy’ Aquino of the Provincial Information Office in Pangasinan and the former Rebecca Macaraeg of the Philippines Agency in Dagupan City.


Atty. Aquino obtained her law degree at the St. Louis University in Baguio City last year and her Mass Communications degree at the University of the Philippines in Baguio where she graduated cum laude.


She finished her secondary education at Ednas School and St. John School, and elementary at St. John   School   where she was consistent honor student.


Atty. Aquino is a former provincial correspondent in Pangasinan of the Philippines Daily Inquirer and one-time worked at the City Information Office during the incumbency of former Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr.
