Provincial officials hold health summit in Pampanga
LINGAYEN— In a bid to have a coherent health care system, the province will hold the first-ever Provincial Health Summit on September 25 to 27 but not without a critical observation about the venue.
Gov. Amado Espino Jr. will spearhead the three-day activity at the Oxford Hotel in Clarkfield, Pampanga, not in Pangasinan.
Expected to attend are250 participants from various chief executives and municipal health officers of local government units (LGUs), and leaders in the health sector. The summit is an offshoot of the three-day rationalization plan activity held in July with MHOs, chief of hospitals, local health coordinators, local health workers and PHO as key major players.
Some Capitol observers noted that the summit will be held outside of the province contravening the governor’s avowed policy of holding such meetings in the province in a bid to promote the province’s tourism program.
“Akala namin ‘Pangasinan first’ sabi ni governor,” said one Capitol employee who requested anonymity. “Pero si governor pa mismo ang pupunta pa duon,” he added shaking his head.
Gov. Espino earlier announced the purchase of 7 brand new tourist buses to shuttle local officials holding conferences in and around the province.
The summit aims to develop strategies to further improve the health of the marginalized sectors with support from the local chief executives and other health stakeholders.
The in-house activity will be facilitated by the provincial health office headed by Dr. Jackson Soriano in coordination with the Health Governance (HealthGov) team, a group tapped by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for its various development programs in the country.
Rationalization of health plan, according to Soriano, is the optimization of the current local health system to be able to deliver the full range of health services in the most effective and efficient manner. #
