Jobseekers find opportunities in employment program

LINGAYEN—Job applicants from Pangasinan have greater chances of finding a job as employment opportunities in both local and foreign shores continue to be made available as part of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr’s. program to make the province the best place for potential employment.

The Provincial Employment Services Office (PESO) recorded a total of 1,004 job applicants who were successfully placed in 2011.

“There were actually more opportunities for foreign employment last year but jobseekers became hesitant to apply which we can attribute to some crises that surfaced,” PESO Chief Alex Ferrer said as he cited the uprising in Libya and the earthquake that rocked Japan.

The 1,004 successful job applicants included 175 who were deployed overseas as professionals or skilled/technical workers; factory workers and domestic helpers mostly in Hongkong, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Taiwan; 49 under the Special Program for Employment of Students; and 780 in local companies, mostly in special economic zones such as Aimstaff Inc., Nanox Philippines, Fibre Sorting, Red Dragon Farm/Fresh Options Meatshop and Trust International Paper Corporation in Pampanga, EPSON Precision Philippines in Batangas, Optis Philippines in Laguna, Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction in Subic, Zambales, and some companies within Pangasinan and Metro Manila.

Four special job fairs participated in by 17 local companies and four overseas placement agencies were organized for construction and industrial personnel; hotel, restaurant and retail service workers; call center agents and business process outsource personnel; and displaced workers from Libya.

Special recruitment activities were also conducted in cooperation with 26 local companies and 34 overseas placement agencies.

Trainings for some 171 job applicants were facilitated in preparation for placement at Hanjin Heavy Industries and various call center companies.

In partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the PESO also pilot-tested an outreach program in four municipalities, namely: Sison, Laoac, Alcala and Urbiztondo.

This benefitted more than 200 job applicants in dairy farming, poultry training, farm tractor operation and basic English conversation.

The program is part of the Access to Training and Employment program of the provincial government to reach out to the unemployed.

Some 5,237 tertiary and secondary students also participated in career coaching and employment seminars jointly conducted by PESO and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in coordination with various schools in the province.

Pre-employment tests for 246 job seekers were administered as a support service to some companies that sought the PESO’s assistance for their test administration and interpretation such as the Dagupan Electric Corporation, DOLE, San Roque Power Corporation and Ginebra San Miguel.

The PESO also assisted the local government units of Infanta, Manaoag, Basista, Sta. Barbara and Malasiqui in conducting job fairs.

A special e-passporting project with the regional Department of Foreign Affairs was also organized where 694 applicants were issued passports.

Anti-illegal recruitment seminars were conducted that benefitted 3,709 local and overseas job applicants. (PIO)
