A NEW Dagupan City Police Station with modern facilities is expected to become another model station in Northern Luzon.

P/Supt. Mariano Luis Verzosa Jr., officer-in-charge of the Dagupan Police, said construction is scheduled to start by the end of September and target completion date is within six to eight months.

The new station will be constructed along A.B. Fernandez Avenue West, near the Dagupan City Hall, on a lot owned by the city to be donated to the Philippine National Police.

The site was formerly occupied by the Pangasinan Teachers Memorial Building and the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC).

The project estimated to cost P15 million, of which an initial P10 million will be provided initially by the PNP while 4th District Rep. Jose de Venecia Jr. has committed P3 million from his Priority Development Assistance Fund.

Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the allotment advice for the funding of the project has already been received by the city.

Once the new police station is operational, the present police station located on Perez Market site on Perez Boulevard will be used by another department of the city government.

Verzosa said the plan is to make it as a state-of-the art building because Camp Crame would like to make the Dagupan Police Station building a model in the whole country.

At the same time, Verzosa said there is a plan to revive an earlier proposal seeking to make the Dagupan Police as City Police Office, separate from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office.

He said if the plan pushes thru, the operational strength as well as operational support of Camp Crame to the Dagupan police would be expanded.

Presently, the Dagupan Police is still short of 290 personnel in order to cope with the ideal police-to-population ratio of one policeman to 500 persons but can only rely on the provincial command to fill in the vacancy.

Its manpower strength of 137, reflects a ratio of one policeman to 1,060 persons.—LM
