Pangasinan riders rule Cabanatuan bikefest
BALER Ravina of Asingan, one of Pangasinan’s best cyclists, ruled the star-studded ‘2008 Araw ng Cabanatuan City Cycling Classic’ held August 26, bringing home the top trophy and a P15,000 prize.
Ravina, the ‘2007 Padyak Pinoy Tour’ first runner-up, with six other riders in the first group, outpedalled his rivals in the last 200 meters with provincemate Emil Pablo of Umingan and Alfredo Asuncion of Guimba, Nueva Ecija coming in close as second and third, respectively.
It was a tight finish that excited the spectators.
Pablo earned P10,000 while Asuncion netted P8,000.
Pitaki Boyz skipper and ‘2003 Tour Pilipinas’ titlist Arnel Quirimit of Pozorrubio and Edgardo Bolleser of San Manuel, Pangasinan finished fourth and fifth, good for P5,000 and P3,000 each respectively.
The five clocked the 100.15 kilometers in two hours, 20 minutes and 18 seconds.
Rounding up the ten were: Salvador Salvador of San Manuel, 6th; Renato Sembrano of Mangaldan, 7th; Reynaldo Navarro of San Jacinto, 8th; Sherwin Carrera of San Fabian, 9th and Joel Calderon of Guimba, N.E., 10th.
The annual event, sponsored by the city government of Cabanatuan City, had 86 participants from Manila, Tarlac, Nueva Vizcaya and Pangasinan.
All finishers received an incentive prize of P300 a piece.—JAGJr.
