Pitaki riders lost steam in nat’l criterium
PANGASINAN’s well-known cycling squad the Pitaki Boyz dominated the first four legs of the national criterium series but has since fallen behind in the fifth and sixth stages.
The Pitaki Boyz now lead in this eight-stage competition by only eight points from the initial 32 over their arch rival, the Philippine Army team.
The sixth leg held recently at Quezon City Memorial Circle was won by two-time tour champion Warren Davadilla.
Tour veteran Manileno Rodolfo Malangsa finished second and little-known Dalton Tablizo took third.
The best that the Pitaki cyclists accomplished was sixth place courtesy of Manaoag son Ericson Obosa.
The sixth leg was marred by multiple spills due to heavy downpour especially in the category B race that led to the 12-man Pangasinan team’s debacle.
The Pitaki Boyz, however, have promised to do better on the seventh leg on September 21 in Bagabag, Nueva Ecija.
The eight and final leg of the series is tentatively scheduled on November and most likely in Dagupan City, according to the race director Ric Rodriguez.—JAG, Jr.
