Dengue kills 3 in San Carlos
SAN CARLOS CITY–While no dengue outbreak has been declared officially, three people were reported to have died due to dengue and more patients with similar symptoms are being admitted daily at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) here.
Dr. Policarpio Manuel, acting chief of PPH, told The PUNCH that two children in San Carlos City and a teenager from Calasiao died last week.
This month alone, 26 dengue cases have been admitted while 59 dengue patients were recorded last month.
Last year, there was no casualty recorded at the PPH.
Majority of the patients come from Calasiao, which is perennially flooded during the rainy season and floodwater usually remains stagnant for weeks in some areas.
Manuel said the number is alarming but he leaves it to the municipal health officers in the affected areas to decide whether there is an outbreak as they have knowledge of the local situation.
Meanwhile, the Red Cross office in Dagupan has been encountering problems with blood supply for dengue patients.
Florame Magalong, Red Cross chapter administrator in Dagupan, said the demand for blood from dengue cases not just in Pangasinan but also from La Union, has increased this month and there is not enough supply to meet the demand. #
