Webczars avenges defeat, routs Alaminos 5, 104-101
THE Webczars learned a big lesson in their first meeting when their defenses collapsed in the fourth and final quarter to yield a close 104-100 decision despite taking a huge 20-point lead at the first half.
Then they came back with a vengeance and said “enough is enough”, bringing in more artilleries and promised not to duplicate that humiliating debacle.
And so, they did.
This time the Webczars pulled a big win, routing their tormentor by 29 points, 112-83.
It was the second encounter by the Dagupan City-based UPang Webczars with the Alaminos City Selection held anew at the Alaminos City plaza last March 18 in conjunctions with the celebration of the host town’s fiesta.
Unlike their first collision in which the dreaded and well-known Pangasinan amateur quintet Webczars lost steam at the homestretch, the rejuvenated boys of head coach Angel Gumarang this time-protected their 13-point (58-45) half time lead, never looked back and ballooned their lead up to the end, to the dismay of the huge partisan crowd.
Calasiao standoutTerry Torio sizzled a game high 23 points while Renato Soriano contributed 18. Bugallon son Bryan Santillan added 17; all made in the first half.
Arnel Ibarrientos poured in a team high 21 points for the losing cause. John Lou Caaya, a mainstay of the University of Luzon Golden Tigers contributed 13. – JAG
