Tortang Malunggay chosen best menu in cookfest

STA. BARBARA–Tortang Malunggay was adjudged best recipe in the Inter-Secondary Schools Cookfest held last week at the Minien National High School as part of the celebration of the Nutrition Month in July.

Mayor Reynaldo Velasco awarded a medal and P700 to the two student winners of the cookfest who submitted a sample of the “Tortang Malunggay” in his office last Thursday.

Regine Yu and Rueda Christine Molina, both senior students of the Minien National High School, also submitted a vegetable salad dish as another menu.

The two were accompanied by their advisers Marcial Cruz and Dominador Camat.

The cookfest was also participated in by students of the Maramba National High School, Matic-Matic National High School, Banaoang National High School and Butao National High School.

The ingredients for “Tortang Malunggay” are starch, garlic, onions and malunggay leaves.

Members of the board of judges chose malunggay as the best recipe among all other entries because it met the criteria of the contest which included affordability, availability and being a healthy food.

Malunggay is said to be one of the richest vegetable in terms of food nutrients and is highly recommended by doctors and health experts. — LM
