City’s ‘Barangay Night’ turns sour with lewd show
FUN FOR THE BOYS
WHAT was supposed to be a fun evening for Dagupan’s barangay officials and their families left a very bad taste in the mouth with the inclusion of a lewd show that prompted some guests to walk out.
Seven scantily-clad ladies in two-piece bikinis performing lascivious acts in comic form were featured on stage in the public plaza during the Barangay Night of the City Fiesta on December 27, where barangays officials, their wives and children were in attendance.
Also present in the audience were Mayor Benjamin Lim, Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, and Councilors Maybelyn Fernandez, Brian Lim, Jeslito Seen and Alvin Coquia.
“We can not do anything as the show was suddenly introduced without giving us a chance to register our objection,” Vice Mayor Fernandez said.
She denounced the “bold show” saying it was utterly inappropriate for the occasion and the venue.
Mayor Lim was not heard to have protested the show, neither did he give his reaction to the local media.
Fernandez said she was informed that it was the idea of Councilor Guillermo Vallejos, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay Federation and appointed hermano mayor of the Dagupan Fiesta, to hire the ladies to perform.
The controversial show that lasted for more than one hour was staged before the coronation of the first Miss Dagupan Barangay pageant, saw several wives and women guests and walk out.
“The beauty pageant for Miss Barangay was beautiful but what destroyed it was the insertion of the highly offensive ‘bold’ show that should have been confined in bars and for only male audiences,” Fernandez said.
