Of vice and clowns

By Gonzalo Duque

FIRST, the country.

It’s very obvious that in its transition, the Philippines under our new fighting president Digong Duterte is going through a political brawl sort of.

The Mindanao violence as horrifically evidenced by Marawi City should be the last straw.

No less than the President has said so, a new city will be reborn, pampered with rehab infra and the people’s resolve to make their city great again.

We’ve talked to a lot of people. They say it’s better this way rather than have a government which can’t be trusted for its false pronouncements. They, politicians before (some are still around, the remnants) play doublespeak. In Digong’s case, you get what you see. Totoong tao..

Kaya mahal ng masa, nagmumura, e dapat naman e. Mga pretender ang mga animal e, he’d say… oh, yes, ang mga pare, di ba hipokrito?

     Kaya yan, nag rereporma na.

Thank our activist president for the many achievements. And we concur. But to us, the best that happened to the country is, the restored credibility of government. From there, everything follows accordingly.

We can say with confidence, this nation can be great again, really.

The city government of Dagupan is in the headlines again due to to the move to move the city hall… hmmm, yes, out of its messy place.

Dapat lang, di ba?  Visit any other towns and cities in Pangasinan, and you get a kawawang koboy image of our Dagupan City hall.

Those who are bashing Mayor Belen kesyo she will benefit from the proposed venue, eh, saan ba ang gusto ni Vice Mayor Brian and Councilor — or Clowncilor — Red Erfe?

Does Brian want it at Barangay Guilig?

You see, when he was mayor, our friend Benjie was eyeing the MC Adore venue; and when nobody was looking, sold it to Cabangon Chua for a pittance, P119 M something when it should have been properly valued at P300 M!

We remember again the wit of our late friend, former Governor Ager Rosario who used to write a column in this paper, “agti pala mantitilaan!

But, anger aside, we want our people, dear Dagupenos, to focus on the right things… not just city hall, please, but a government center where we can transact business quickly and with ease. As things stand, we have a messy experience dealing with government offices which are located helter skelter or topsy turvy at our cramped city hall, you know what we mean. We should really work for putting up a one-stop shop ha?

We should enlarge our vision, not to be nauseated by a city hall venue verbal brawl, but by what would work for the benefit of the people… a government center worth our lives and one that would prosper us, ok, Brian, Red?
