JUNE 20 is the 70th Agew na Dagupan and a “Platinum” celebration is in store for the city’s commemoration of its cityhood. Several activities are lined up mostly spearheaded by DepEd Dagupan with the Dagupan LGU’s Culture and Arts Office and the City Tourism Office.

Wondering what Dagupan looked like before? Dagupan Nën Saman features a search for the oldest picture of people, places and events of Dagupan City/ Platinum Memoir. Deadline for submission will be on June 5, 2017. Judging will be on the 7th of June.

Platinum Laki / Bai is a search for the Dagupenos who were born on June 20, 1947. Manlingkor Ya Kalangwëran Leadership Training will be held on June 6-8. ‘Manlingkor ya Kalangweran’ is a unique leadership program of the city for outstanding young students to inspire them to be conscious of, and aspire for ideals that would make them as outstanding leaders in government, business, and in many other fields of endeavor. Aninaw, a Spoken Words Workshop and Competition for Secondary Students will be held on June 8. The top 3 will perform on June 20, Agew na Dagupan.

Diya’d Dagupan (Digital Story of Dagupan) is a digital documentary/ short film designed to uncover the best and most unique stories about the City of Dagupan. Deadline of submission is on June 9 and judging will be on June 13. There’s Batik Ulupan (Dagupan Platinum Fun Run) for the fitness conscious on June 9.

On the Agew na Kawayangan (119th Independence Day) a thanksgiving mass, floral offering/ wreath laying will be held followed by the oath taking of the Manlinkor Ya Kalangweran and awarding of Platinum Laki/Bai and Palarong Pambansa awardees. A Dagupan City History Quiz Bee for Elementary and High School dubbed Palyagan na Awaran and a Visual and Theater Arts Workshops for Elementary Pupils (Arte ed Dagupan Workshop) is scheduled for June 14 and June 16 respectively.

On June 19, several activities are in lined up for the whole day. The 156th birth anniversary of our national hero Jose Rizal will be commemorated with a wreath laying program in the morning. In the afternoon, a Parada na Dekada (Float Parade of the 7 Decades) is set with the following contingents: Unaan ya Dekada – Brgy. Cluster 1 (1947-1957), Kumaduan Dekada – Brgy. Cluster IV (1957-1967), Kumatlon Dekada – Brgy. Cluster II (1967-1977), Kumapat ya Dekada – Brgy. Cluster III (1977-1987), Kumaliman Dekada – Brgy. Cluster VI (1987-1997), Kumaanem ya Dekada – Brgy. Cluster V (1997-2007) and Kumapiton Dekada – DepEd (2007-2017). The day will be culminated with a Kansyon na Pangkakasakey (Unity Singing) at the City Museum.

The highlight of the Agew na Dagupan celebration will be on June 20 to celebrate the Pitumplon Taon ya Agew na Dagupan (70th Dagupan Day) with a thanksgiving mass, program and floral offering/ wreath laying at the statue of Speaker Eugenio Perez at Herrero-Perez. Speaker Perez is said to be the “Father of Dagupan City” as he authored the law (R.A. 170) that created Dagupan into a city. At the Almusal ed Kaleskesan, people will partake in one of Dagupan’s special delicacy – the kaleskes. Kaleskes which means intestines in Pangasinan is a broth made up of the carabao or cow’s innards and meat. A gala night will culminate the Agew na Dagupan with honoring the Pinablin Dagupeño or Outstanding Dagupeños.

To cap the month-long celebration, a Chess Summit: First Dagupan Chess Workshop with Grandmaster Eugene Torre will be held on June 30.
