President Digong, visionary

By Gonzalo Duque

OUR tough-talking President, in case you couldn’t catch up with his unusual, revolutionary governance, is not all fight and “mura.”

He is a great revolutionary and a visionary, too.

A friend, brilliant Muslim leader we talked to recently has the goods on Digong.

“Sir, Gonz, Digong will be the greatest president of our country!”

We thought G.M. was pulling our leg because he knew our support for the President.

“No, sir,” he said and came out with a litany of details.

“Read his body language, never mind his radical mouth and follow his vision of a great country,” GM said.

We met this Muslim at the residence of Jun Velasco when he was working for a new memorial park of Pangasinan Muslims. We found him, a former MILF commander in Cotabato very spiritual, who finds the Koran and the Bible as emanating from one God.

Back to his report, GM said, “sir Gonz, watch for the best things that will happen in Mindanao, yes, after the bloody violence.”

Still with his characteristic Mindanaoan slang, GM said “Digong is providentially the spokesman of the new Filipino generation because he is literally uplifting Mindanao, a victim of broken promises to enable it to catch up with the rest of Luzon.”

Can he do it? We asked.. “He is already doing it… In his own, ‘brusque’ way, if you wish; but he, who is full of empirical wisdom, will cause government to follow his ideas like federalism and a parliamentary government, the only system which deprived, depressed, deposed and dispossessed Mindanao could shore up and move up in a catch-up way.”

Magagawa niya, Sir, kasi his ideas have the blessings of God, mapagmahal sa mahihirap.Ayaw sa mga arogante, hipokrito at mapagsamantala,” GM  continued.

Pero, brod, we said, how about the killings? Madaming namatay sa Marawi, papaano yon? How could we justify that? GM thought deeply and said, “God will find a way.” Nagdurugo ang puso ni Digong, but he is 100 percent sure where the country is going.

Papaano iyong mga magugulo, mga korap, mga ISIS, mga Maute. Mga kontrabida?”

“Sir Gonz, did you not realize that Digong’s favorite poem is “Desiderata?”

“There’s a time to be born, a time to plant, a time to harvest, a time to fight, a time to die….”  Of course, nagdurugo ang kanyang puso, but he knows deep in his heart that something like a blessing, a national salvation, and rebirth of this great country are unfolding.

GM then stood up, shook our hand, and said “you picked the right man, you’re are on the right side of history,” then proceeded to the door, and turning around he said, “this time, we can say with confidence, ‘this nation will be great again.’”

Sana magdilang anghel ka, G.M.
