Humility is power

IT’S almost Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas to one and all!

How do we deal with this most joyous day in this very merry season?

Dami tayong nakikita diyan na parakepay liket, fiesta galore!

O, kayo dyan, baka nagba-backslide kayo ha?

Probably, in your eagerness to show-off your joy, nagkakandarapa kayo to display your earthly possessions through food, drink, dance and other forms of festivities!!!

But amid the din and trappings of the so-called Christmas merriment, don’t lose sight of Christmas true message.

If other kings, the earthly ones, do it in pompous, regal, colorful trappings, our Lord and Saviour – the true King –did it in another way.

Nagpanggap na baby born in a manger in a stable of animals!

Nakakaintriga, ano?  A king born in a hay of animals in one wintry night! Aren’t you shocked, scandalized, intrigued by that fact of life?

As we go back to our all-time assertion: humility is the essence of life. Pagpapakumbaba… reaching out to the poor and the lowly.

And so, we think that this season of love and joy should be one of reflection.

The first to hit this message are our politicians.

Where are they?

Baka like those two Immigration Commissioners, they are still in their self-centered ways, nagpapasasa, nagpapasarap, nagaabuso ng kanilang kaluluwa!!! Ay, naku, that’s the way of the heathens, the demons, the maggots of society who destroy our life’s fabric!!  Believe us, hindi sila magtatagal! Ay, oo, bibigyan sila ng lubid to tie their necks off… but surely, they will join the rest in the sinkholes of hell!!

Hmmm… someone tapped us on the back. How about President Digong, kuno?

            Humble ba yan?

Well, it’s like this. No less than the revered Jesuit priest Father Barcelon, former president of Ateneo de Davao University, Digong does all the nasty things you dislike, but he gets things done! That’s it. He gets the best things that benefit the nation done!

Unlike some run-of-the-mill priests who behave holier-than-thou, Fr. Barcelon is able to see beyond the façade of hypocrisy.

We won’t overstate this, lest you’d say we’re still campaigning – e panalo na nga ang amigo natin!

You, too, all know that all over the world, this probinsyano has overnight transformed into a highly esteemed world leader! Type nila ang governance style niya. O, yes, hindi pakitang tao, bastos pa kung minsan e… but he is loved, he is esteemed because people like his “over-honesty,” his brutal frankness, and his  all-out actions for the poor.

What really matters is what the heart feels to be true, real and worth our whiles.

Merry Christmas!

NOTES: Oh, yes, we should have made our beloved LNU more resplendent especially this season… but how naman shall we deal with some ugly sections in the neighborhood? Maybe we should ask our Kapitan Jake “ang pagbabalik kuno” Reyes (why, has he ever left?) to shape up and clean up!!! (Ni wadtan ni may ambanget ya garbage ed arap (almost) na barangay hall!

Former Vice Mayor Pepe Siapno suggests a “new diversion road” be constructed to connect that strip along Solano Road passing by Ope Reyna’s house toward the CSI-Lucao and decongest vehicular traffic in the area!

What’s this we saw on Facebook that a certain former cop accompanied by POSO-wearing bodyguard was seen in a cockpit in Calasiao?  Commented a fellow civic leader “Kaya pala ma-trapik, kasi iba ang inaatupag?” Mayor Belen, where are you?
