POLITICAL BLACKMAIL. A graduating mayor in central part of Pangasinan got the big surprise of his political career when all the councilors aligned with him abandoned him in favor of another mayoralty candidate.

Mr. Mayor has anointed his wife to succeed him in the 2016 elections.

The wife’s mayoralty rival, it appeared, found the strongest weapon to recruit allies. What he had in mind was enough for the incumbent councilors to run under him.

The honorable opponent, with his judicial prowess, apparently knows the Achilles’ heels of the councilors and has indicated he is ready to drag them to the courts for their mischiefs, whether in personal capacity or involving their official function in their municipality, which for years were not exposed to the public.

Afraid of legal troubles, the councilors were successfully recruited by the opponent to his team. Nganga si mayor.

Marami palang kabulukan at kabalbalan, at mga “magic-magic” na nangyari noong mga nakaraang taon sa bayan nila at kasama itong mga konsehal na ito sa racket nila.

Takot sila ngayon sa sarili nilang multo.

THAT DIRTY TRICK. We expect no more dirty tactics to be employed by the camp of a candidate running scared against another candidate or his or her camp now that the candidates will finally troop to the Comelec to file their certificates of candidacy from Oct. 12 to 16. 

We hope there would be no more of the same that happened in 2012 during the filing day when out of the blue, a woman vendor from Bonuan Gueset, a namesake of then Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, was literally dragged to the City Comelec office  by then Mayor Benjie Lim’s henchman in the dying minutes and was made to file her certificate of candidacy for mayor without realizing she was going to run for the highest position in the city.

Believing that then Vice Mayor Belen had majority of Dagupenos supporting her, the Lim camp devised a very cunning scheme that intended to cancel votes that did not correctly specify votes for which “Belen Fernandez’s. ”

Of course, that stupid scheme bombed out. The woman, through the prodding of the real Belen, revealed that she agreed to file her certificate of candidacy because she was promised one motorized tricycle for her son and a house and lot for the family.

That plot boomeranged and led to the election by some seven thousand vote margin of the real Belen Fernandez over Lim. – Leonardo Micua
