Women in love
PASALO

By Virginia Jasmin Pasalo

YOUR heart is broken, and you are acquainted for the first time with grief. You glance at the chair where you used to sit beside him, and kiss the shirt he wore on his last visit. You put on his sleepers, you see the mirror in front of you, but you do not see yourself. It would have been easy not to grieve, but his goodness was everywhere. You come to a realization that goodness can be the cause of your greatest pain.

Sometimes we can be so preoccupied with our own miseries. We break our hearts and we do not see the world around us. We are like horses being driven on the road, with eyes covered, seeing only one direction, stripped of the will to think.

In a moment of calm, normally after a brisk walk, or on quiet time, at 3:00 a.m., when one can listen to the universe, the blinders are slowly shed, and the eyes are cleared by the calming water from a celestial river.

Suddenly one contemplates the bigger world, the dynamics of which is more difficult to fathom. But at the same time, clarity seems to be the prize for one who rises above the self.

We die many times for love, when in love. But a bigger love rescues our existence and reunites us to our true destinies.

WHERE DO BROKEN HEARTS GO?

in the bottle to ferment tears
with rhymes of strange words
meeting one other
for the first time
in decomposition
or to the sweet comfort
of Krispy Creme (not at SM)
or Bread Talk (not at SM)
bellyaching
belly dancing
belly birthing

To London or to Baguio
Batanes or La Presa
or the mountains of Sagada
Mt. Kiltepan, Mt. Pulag
Mt..Ay, Apo!

Nooooo, to the cliff!
instant deliverance
your foreshadow
dropping slowly
with the cold wind
and you
holding on to a pine twig
an afterthought
a decision
finally, to life!
