When it comes to timing, Chiz does it best

AL-MENDOZA-GEN-ADMISSION

 CHIZ Escudero has spoken.  Again.

“Let us leave them alone,” Chiz said.  “That is a family matter.”

Chiz had said that amid a mini storm hitting the ranks yet again of Grace Poe.

This time, Sheryl Cruz, the “cousin” of Poe, is into the picture.

But first, the introductions.

Sheryl, an actress no less like her mother Rosemarie Sonora, is a niece of Susan Roces.

Susan used to be the Queen of Philippine movies married to the late FPJ (Fernando Poe Jr.), then the King of Philippine movies.

This week, Sheryl was in the news when she refused to submit to a DNA test.

Such test might help establish the bloodline of Grace, who is facing a disqualification case at the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) on citizenship issues.

Angelito David had filed the case, claiming Grace is not a natural born citizen.

David’s argument is centered on Grace being a foundling found abandoned in a church in Jaro, Iloilo.

Grace, 47, eventually fell into the hands of FPJ and Susan Roces via adoption procedures.

However, Grace’s biological parents have remained unknown—thus the basis of David’s contention that the self-proclaimed presidential aspirant is not a natural born citizen.

A major Constitution requirement only allows a natural born citizen to run for president of the republic.

But since Grace’s parents have never been identified in documents pertinent to Grace’s personal circumstances, her nationality has become suspect.

One can qualify as a natural born citizen when born in the Philippines with Filipino parents.

Amid all the brouhaha, the ancient rumor that Grace is a child of the late dictator Marcos and Rosemary Sonora has resurfaced.

And in a not-so-laughable detour, Sheryl was called upon to undergo a DNA test and the result of which may be compared to that of Grace’s own DNA test.

DNA testing is now the most accurate medical procedure to establish blood relations.

If the tests done on Sheryl and Grace match, then some grain of truth on the Marcos-Rosemarie romantic tryst could arise.

That could also bolster belief Grace is a natural born citizen—her “parents” Ferdie & Rosemary being Filipinos.

But Sheryl strongly objects to a DNA test done her and her position has sparked some household fireworks.

Trying to protect family pride, dignity?

Enter Chiz, grabbing the opportunity for some scene-stealing stance once more that could help his vice presidential bid soar.

But nothing new there.

Through the years, Chiz has mastered the art of trespassing into limelight-grabbing controversies.

Ah, the family affair script.

Did he not also receive much flak when he invoked “simple family squabbles” as the root of the recent Iglesia ni Cristo divide?

Chiz knows it by heart:  Good or bad publicity, it’s publicity just the same.
