HELPFUL INTERPRETERS NEEDED. English only, please.

No, it was not about the Pinoy movie that starred Jennylyn Mercado and Derek Ramsay.

It was about the recent visit of American sailors who obviously had to converse in their mother tongue. It was tough for some Pangasinenses who had to struggle speaking the King’s language in order to communicate with men and women of the US Navy Ship Mercy mission who came to provide humanitarian services.

Sensing the problem, a resourceful Pangasinan official who is quite adept at speaking English, decided he could not do it alone so he invited a very charming special friend, no longer young but still alluring, to help him with interpretings tasks during the farewell program.

Brows of keen local observers suddenly went up, wondering about the alluring woman, “D Who?”

But the identity of the Ms is not a secret, as she made it a point to let others know  the extra special treatment the generous official gives her. Atta girl!

The whisperers did not stop, wondering where the other pabebe staff was, she who loves to romp off during official business hours, and has long been the subject of chismaks windmill for her long dalliance with her boss.

Kunsabagay, said one visitor, if the new face can fluently speak English, the other one is at her best dealing with local folks in their native tongue.

At least, both serve a good purpose for the boss, right?—Tita Roces

WOOING VOTE-RICH PANGASINAN – Mar Roxas and Grace Poe came to the province last week one after the other last week and impressed the Pangasinenses with their wit and wisdom on many issues.

Although Roxas’ trip here was a whirlwind one, he discussed his points clearly on many issues when he was interviewed over two local radio stations which Ms. Poe also did when she was here.

To us, they are both qualified to hold the highest position of the land as with the other possible presidential aspirants who also continuously come to the province to try to woo the Pangasinan votes of close to two million.

Remember, Vice President Jejomar Binay just visited the western and eastern parts of the province, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte were also in Dagupan a few months back.

Aspiring politicians have to come to the province because they know that Pangasinan is vote- rich.

But if you ask us who sounded more presidential between the two–Grace and Mar, plus Binay, Cayetano and Duterte, my lips are sealed.

Grace a young upstart in politics and topped her first shot at the Senate. She is well educated like Roxas and the women and young voters will be surely back her up.

Roxas promises to continue the good governance started by the Aquino administration which means that the campaign against graft and corruption will be sustained under his administration.

There were many suggestions that instead of pitting Grace against Mar, tearing each other apart in political battle, they should instead join forces so they can deliver what they both intend to do to the Filipino people as a team.

Soon we will know the decision of Poe whether she will opt to slug it out with the others in 2016. I’m sure Roxas and his Liberal Party will respect that decision. – Leonardo Micua
