History repeats itself in Ph politics?

WHILE we wrote this, the Liberal Party was set to proclaim Sec. Mar Roxas as its official bet for President, that he after all the hemming and hewing, he is President Aquino’s official candidate for president.

At least, that’s what the headlines said.

We do not know if after submitting our column to the Punch, what we were writing here would remain unchanged.

Also, the Friday headlines were suggesting the LPs are salivating for Senator Grace Poe to be Mar’s teammate. But Grace hasn’t given her much sought-after “yes.” Parang pakipot, hele bagi quiere!

The rumor mills say Grace Poe wants to run for president… yes, with Chiz Escudero as her vice president.

Sen. Grace Poe is the big puzzle in this guessing game.

Ok, let’s presume the proposed LP-brokered tandem, Mar-Grace, is achieved, what of it?

Well, Grace has a bright chance to win, no doubt about it… she is popular… but Mar?

The plan is, with Grace as his teammate, Mar’s winning chance gets boosted, that’s the theory. That’s the gambit. What do you think? Do you agree?

Let’s go back to an interesting episode in our political past.

Did you know that Diosdado Macapagal soundly beat then Jose P. Laurel in the vice presidential contest? The LP then fielded a Jose Yulo-Dadong Macapagal team.

What happened? Yulo lost to Carlos Garcia, while Cong. Dadong won.

It’s clear as day that the LP’s simply used the sugar baron Jose Yulo’s money to win.

So, our query, won’t history repeating itself in the planned Mar Roxas-Grace Poe team?

Well, anyway, that is an LP affair. We have no business debating or interfering with them.

Meanwhile, in a recent “Boses ni Juan” DWIZ presidential survey, Davao City Mayor Rudy Duterte won overwhelmingly, with Grace Poe coming in second.

Two weeks ago, Duterte was 2nd to Poe in the survey… We’re reproducing the survey results, as follows: Duterte, 26.94; Poe, 23.10; Binay, 17.16; Roxas, 5.72.

We forgot to include the ratings for Miriam and Bongbong who, by the way, were even ahead of Roxas (in the survey).

The DWIZ survey series is giving a Poe-Duterte round robin, which shows a Duterte popularity constant and zoomie skyward!

May duda pa ba kayo to a Duterte presidency?

So we see here a beaten presidential but, winner-vice presidential candidate. We still believe in a Duterte presidential destiny.

Our Deretsahan partner Sec. Bobot Villar is very mad at the lawyers who accused Sto. Tomas Mayor Dick Villar for violating the law on campaign expenses. Dick daw overspent by more than 5,000 pesos.

Why is the manong mad?

Because Mayor Dick Villar ran unopposed! Unopposed candidate overspent!

This disqualification case Manong Bebot won’t let it pass, just like that. Somebody has to pay for making a mockery of the elections.

The case, says, the manong, could ever lead to disbarment proceedings of the lawyer/lawyers who who filed the case.

In Dagupan, it can be safely said that no mayor can equal that of Mayor Belen Fernandez in her support for education. Grabe karami ng mga projects, Supt. Eufrocina Bravo is just so excited about it.

This is a warning to those who are planning to run against BTF.

You’re wasting your time. Belen is unbeatable.
