Good news from the frontlines

BEBOT VILLAR

By Bebot Villar

RECENTLY, thanks to high police visibility in Dagupan City, a group of armed men was arrested by the police while on patrol in Barangay Lucao.

Imagine, Saturday ito nangyari in broad daylight! The suspects may not be professional killers but are hired killers. Meaning, the group is also into illegal drug trade! Kaya 2 birds in one stone ang nangyari rito.

High police visibility is what we really need. And we praise the PNP Dagupan headed by P/Supt. Christopher Abrahano for its effective partnership with Mayor Belen Fernandez.

How I wish all towns can sustain police visibility but since limited, there are still not enough policemen. Hindi nga pwede ito. But the political will of our local government leaders can do a lot of difference sa peace and order.

Congratulations to P/Sr. Superintendent Rolly Saltat, the newly-appointed OIC at the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) who has a winning strategy – “1-2-3 Punch”!

“Man of Action” ang bagong OIC kaya soon, susulat tayo ng bagong accomplishment!

Personally, I support our new OIC in his aggressive plan to help reduce the crime rate in the province especially the drug-related crimes. Tama ‘yan! The youth needs all the help to be protected from illegal drugs.

Another urgent issue that needs to be addressed is the “Riding-in-Tandem” cases. I believe he will do his best to help our people feel that they are safe in their own respective places.

Ito pa isang good news!

Another program called “Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Trainor’s Training” is being prepared by the DDB for the province of Pangasinan.

Para sa kaalaman ng lahat, ang DARE ay nagsimula sa Los Angeles Police Department noong 1983 in cooperation with the Los Angeles Unified School District as a comprehensive, long-term education approach to prevent substance abuse among children.

Target of this program will be the Grade IV pupils and will be an integral part of the PNP’s existing program, “Pulis Ko, Titser Ko.” There will 40 police officers to participate coming from Police Community Relations; PCOs and PNCOs from the different cities and towns of Pangasinan.

Then last June 26, 2015, the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) led the annual observance the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) was observed with the theme, “Let’s develop our lives, our communities, our identity without drugs.”

This time it was held in the town of Angono, Rizal. Nagpapasalamat ako kay Gov. Rebecca A. Ynares at Mayor Gerardo V. Calderon for hosting the event.

One of the highlights was the Recycled Fashion Show competition and Art Workshops on mask-making, t-shirt printing; eco-bag design-making and Water Hyacinth-painting para sa mga kabataan!

We believe that busy minds keep away from drugs.
