CHEERS AND JEERS. Teachers in San Carlos City Schools Division Office have been asking this reporter about Dr. Gloria Torres, their newly-assigned superintendent.

“Makapuy kunoy ugali to katon sinipa dad Dagupan?,” an apprehensive teacher texted me.

I told her I am not aware of her behavior but honestly told the texter I had been hearing negative reports about her relationship with some top Dagupan City officials during her stint here.

“Agaylay kamalas mi ey,” the texter again texted back, fearful about their misfortune having her in their division.

I replied, “Do not prejudge her.”

“Salien ton subuken iray amputi’y  layag. Aga nayarid dya itay ugalin kali-kali,” the texter, as if warning Madam Torres to better shape up (no literal meaning please on her body figure) or ship out, commented again.

It appears that Torres’ transfer to San Carlos is Dagupan’s cheers but her new assignment’s jeers.— Tita Roces

 

WHY THE DELAY? Now that the Bangus Festival is over, its about time the Sangguniang Panlungsod passes the revised Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) that was proposed to that body as early as October last year.

After three committee hearings that only started before the Holy Week, a fourth hearing was again proposed but the date was never set. That keeps many wondering what the city council still needs to confirm before it passes it.

We attended these hearings and we believe every conceivable question that can be asked about it had been asked, and the proponent, City Planning and Development Coordinator Romy Rosario, was able to respond satisfactorily to these with all facts and data.

Our aldermen must know that time is running out for some of the proposed projects, like the establishment of a new government center and a fish port which is a gift of the national government to the city through the initiative of Congresswoman Gina de Venecia . All these are dependent on the approval of the CLUP.
