NOT READY FOR K+12. At least two petitions for injunction were filed against R.A. 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 – the K+12 program, so far. The controversial program will add two more years in high school.
Petitioners versus K+12 dubbed the program as “anti-Filipino” because it abolishes mandatory subjects including the Filipino language, Literature, and Philippine Government & Constitution as provided under Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 20, Series of 2013.

The fear that at least 70,000 college faculty and non-teaching members may suffer from job displacement due to the program was also cited. Obviously, there was not enough consultation on the K+12 curriculum with stakeholders, particularly and teachers.

As I’ve always mentioned, why add to the years of schooling when the problem lies in the quality of education? Why not address the most basic of the problems- lack of quality classrooms, ‘error-less’ books and other materials, proficient teachers? Adding additional years would only require additional resources that the government is not capable of allocating.
The majority of the world has the K+12 system while the Philippines has its K+10 ever since. We can very well wow the other nations better not by simply following their lead but by doing better with what we have. I am not totally against the new system, I just don’t think it’s timely to implement it now. Besides, even many of the teachers, are in the dark about it.- Johanne Macob

COS DARWINA’S FAN. Here’s something that should make the day of Ms. Darwina R. Sampang, chief of staff (COS) of Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim. She has a big fan in Punch reader Mario Armas of Malasiqui. Here’s what Mario has to say about her.

“She’s the wing beneath the wing of the VG (Vice Governor). As COS, she is always there ready to lend a helping hand and give positive response to the people who troop to the office of the VG.

What is very apparent to the COS is her smiling face and down-to-earth character. She could give quick imprimatur to the projects of barangay officials trooping her office.

Of course, the COS knows the limits of her authority granted by the VG and the law and on matters she thinks are beyond her, she would immediately confer to the VG.

Armas said the VG and her COS have a very good chemistry. Without her, it is as if he lost his one shoulder. The COS is the ceaseless wing beneath the wings of the VG, he added. – Leonardo Micua .

BRAGGING BRAGGART. Beware of this official, he loves to brag.

A vice mayor in Pangasinan said he and his family were so humiliated because of lies peddled by his once-upon-a-time friend, Mr. High Ranking Official.

Mr. Official claims that he was the one who paid for the false teeth (pustiso) of the vice mayor.

Agaylay pakanengneng tod siyak met, alabas nen say payabol ak,” lamented the veem.

Here’s aother. A retired police general narrated how Mr. Official, in front of other people, bragged that he was the one who helped him send to school that eventually made him become lawyer.

Di ba, _____, ako ang nagpa-aral sa yo?,” Mr. Official proudly said, to which the poor general, although against his will as it was not true, could only say, “Yes sir”.

Binigyan lang ako minsan ng isang libro, siya na ang nagpa-aral sa akin?,” the peeved general said.

Well, Mr. Official’s bragging hasn’t stopped as he continues to make the public know through some gullible people that he has also helped Ms/Mr “So and So” pay for the funeral/hospitalization of their beloved.

Tutulong ka rin lang (kung tunay man yan), huwag mo nang ipagsabi, Sir dahil wala ring kwenta yang charity work mo sa attitude mo! Di ba nasa Holy Book yan na, “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing”.

Ang lalim ng hugot mo, sir! Bitter?– Tita Roces
